Making a makerspace case for academic libraries in Nigeria
I have just published an article with Emerald on the nacent terminology 'makerspace'. This has been, but probably new to many of us. I was privileged to learn about makerspace during the Carnegie-funded CPD programme which I attended in 2015. It was an eye opener to some of us that attended the programme, considering the benefits of establishing a makerspace in our universities, especially in libraries being pivotal to collaborative learning in higher educational setting.
Mid 2016, I was equally privileged to be invited as a resource person by the CEO of LRCN, to handle the topic: "Library Makerspaces: An Innovation In Library And Information Services" at workshop held in May at Bauchi. I braved it and established contact with the attendees and loved every bit of my class and stay.
In the process of it all, I nurtured the need to enlighten librarians in Nigerian about Makerspace in Libraries. Hence, I decided to put up a write-up which will enable a layman, understand the concept of makerspace and also drafted a proposal guide which librarians need to look at while nurturing the makerspace project.
Just within few seconds of release, the paper has been downloaded three times by readers. Why not take advantage, feel free, and follow this link to access the paper earlycite:
